Prior to the school closure last year, a team of staff members met numerous times to research the benefits and challenges of allowing therapy dogs in district schools. After discussing the topic with several local and regional districts with different therapy dog programs, and reviewing procedures from additional districts, the team developed a District Procedure for therapy dogs to be allowed in Fort Osage schools. In order to ensure the safety of students, staff and therapy dogs, procedures are in place to ensure proper training and support of both humans and animals. There is also a requirement that district funds not be used to purchase or maintain the therapy dog. If you have questions please reach out to your building principal.
