Fort's Career & Technology Center is celebrating 50 years of serving students with an open house celebration on Wednesday, October 3rd from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Alumni, teachers and students of all ages are welcome to attend this fun event. Whether it's competing to see who can put on firefighter bunker gear the fastest or sampling a fresh-baked cookie from our Culinary Arts kitchen, there will be an activity for everyone! Fort Osage has a new program called Farm to Fort. This initiative creates partnerships with local farmers in and around our district, brings local fruits and vegetables to our cafeterias, and enhances current programs already in place at several schools to include school gardens, farm education, and overall awareness of the benefits of this initiative. The planning committee consists of members from the food service, culinary arts, and AG departments along with outside members who have expertise in this area. October is National Farm to School month. Since this is the perfect time to kick off our initiative, Elm Grove will participate in "The Great Apple Crunch" at 10:00 am on October 1. Students and staff will eat an apple together and unveil the District banner. It will be streamed on Facebook Live. We look forward to watching this program “grow”. The participation in Go365 has been outstanding! There were 62% of employees who received silver status while 34% earned gold status and above. This will buy down the premium increase beginning January 1, 2019 by 6%. The District will continue to contribute $581.30 per month for each eligible employee. Four plan options will be available at varying costs, including two high deductible plans with no employee cost and an HSA contribution, and two PPO options with some employee contribution required. Look for additional information to be shared soon as the open enrollment meeting is scheduled for October 17. Beginning later this semester, the District will be partnering with Comprehensive Mental Health to provide therapy services for District students in need. This partnership will bring a full-time therapist to the District to provide services for individual students and groups. The focus of the partnership is a therapy-informed approach to behavioral health and prevention.
The therapist will partner with building leaders and counselors to identify students who would benefit from therapy with a mental health professional. The therapist will then work with the family to arrange for care and provide services within our schools. We expect the therapist to have a ‘home base’ at Osage Trail and then travel to schools throughout the District to provide care where the student attends. Stay tuned for more information about this exciting opportunity for us to further meet the needs of our students. The annual Red Barn Bash will be held on Saturday, October 20 from 6:00-9:30 pm at Sibley Orchard. It is a night of boot scootin’ fun with dinner, live music and a silent auction. All monies raised come back to support Fort Osage students and staff. The music will be provided by the all Fort Osage alumni band "The Trace". There will be a BBQ dinner with pork tenderloin, veggie, salad, potatoes, and dessert. Appetizers will be shrimp cocktail and assorted cheese and crackers. Two tickets will be given away to one lucky winner using the RNG. If you're interested, please email me at [email protected] with ''Barn Bash" in the subject line by 8:00 am on Monday, October 1. Give Away prizes are not purchased with District funds. Only Fort Osage employees are eligible to enter the drawing. |
