I can’t believe 2017 is nearing its end. I’m proud of the many accomplishments the District’s students and staff have had the past year. There is certainly much to celebrate as we enter 2018. Thank you for your continued work to make Fort Osage a special place to educate students. Enjoy your much deserved break! On December 15 Indian Trails Principal, Mrs. Emily Cross was announced as the 2017-2018 Suburban Kansas City Distinguished Elementary Principal of the Year. Mrs. Cross will be recognized in Tan-Tar-A in March and is now one of twelve finalists for the Missouri Principal of the Year. Congratulations Mrs. Cross on this well deserved honor. It is indicative of the accomplishments by the entire team at Indian Trails. The State Board of Education voted 5-3 to accept applications for a new commissioner of education from December 15 until January 8. The timeline has created concern as it allows little time for public input. There is a public hearing scheduled on January 8 to gather input on the characteristic that Missourians would like to see in the next commissioner.
Insurance Cards
Those who are on the District's health insurance plan should be receiving a new insurance card from Humana before January 1, 2018. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance cards won't be valid as of January 1 and you should use your Humana card when going to the doctor or filling prescriptions. HSA Cards If you have a Health Savings Account through UMB you should receive your new HSA card this week if you haven't received it already. Be sure to follow the directions and activate the card so it will work properly. The Board of Education approved an Early Notification of Intent to Retire Incentive. If you plan on retiring by September 1, 2018 and wish to receive the incentive, your signed retirement letter must be received by the Human Resources office on or before Friday, January 5, 2018. For details regarding the plan please see the email from Dr. Gastin with the subject line: Early Notification of Intent to Retire Incentive. For those of you interested, a $50 Amazon gift card will be given away to one lucky winner using the RNG. To enter please send an email to [email protected] with "Amazon" in the subject line. Entries will be accepted until 8:00 am on Tuesday, January 2. Give Away prizes are not purchased with District funds. Only Fort Osage employees are eligible to enter the drawing. I am proud to serve the Fort Osage School District. I have the opportunity to work with amazing people who put student success first. Thank you for everything you do on a daily basis. Know that you are appreciated!
